Legendary. It s an overused word that gets thrown around the music
industry a bit too easily and without much thought. This one is a
legend, that one is a legend. However, many of these so called
legends come, go, and are barely remembered. No one however would
ever question applying the status of legendary to TLC one of music
s most endearing and enduring acts ever. With over 45 million
albums sold worldwide, TLC set trends and broke sales records from
their initial 1992 release Ooooh....On The TLC Tip through their
final studio recording of 3D in 2002. Tragically, the story of TLC
was cut short with the untimely death of its most charismatic and
outspoken member Lisa Left Eye Lopes.
It wasn t just the TLC legacy that got cut so sadly short with Left
Eye s sudden and tragic passing however it was the burgeoning and
yet to be told story of Lisa herself. With the release of
EYE-Legacy , that story is finally ready to be told to the millions
of adoring fans that have been waiting for material from the voice
and personality that made TLC so special in the first place. From
the TLC ish bounce of Let s Just Do It featuring T-Boz, Chilli, and
Missy Elliott to the soon-to-be teen sensation Block Party
featuring Lil Mama, Eye Legacy offers a fresh twist on the only
collection of unreleased songs created and performed by Lisa
Left-Eye Lopes. Other notable collaborations include Bobby
Valentino, Chamillionaire, Free (106 & Park), and others. This
album is a tribute to Left Eye as an artist, the music she left
behind, and the life she led as a creative and spiritual rapper,
singer, songwriter, friend, daughter, and sister.

Rest In Peace, Left Eye. I really like her with TLC, however, her vocal sound is very juvenile and really needs support to carry a song. The rapping is average and the messages are typical. This was a nice effort to keep her legacy alive since she was working on this project when she past.
love this albumReviewed by Jamison Todd Lamb, 2009-02-09
First of all, I must say I love this album. I have been a TLC fan
since the beginning. I bought Supernova when that first cam out and
I loved that album. I would buy anything TLC was on. Another note,
don't listen to the reviews, they don't know what they are talking
about. Here is my review Track by Track.
Spread your wings - I love both versions I thing it is so
encouraging I give 10/10
In the life - not my favorite on either album 5/10
Legendary - Ok, again not my favorite track. They should have keep
2Pac and they should of never changed the name. 5/10
Let just do it - This is a great song, very commercial. unreleased
track from Fanmail. I thing they could have added this song to
Fanmail. This song did mesh well with the album. 10/10
Block Party - I love both versions. I think Lil Mama was a great
choice as a featured Artist. They made this song a little more
commercial then the original. 10/10
Listen - Again, I love both versions of the the song. They made
this song a little more commercial then the original. 10/10
Bounce - I love this song as well. I would like to know when she
recorded this song. This song doesn't sound TLC or N.I.N.A. as a
matter of fact it doesn't sound Left Eye. I wish they had better
featured Artist on this song. I am not a big fan of Chamillionaire
or Bone Crusher, for that reason I will give is 9/10 don't give me
wrong it is still a great song even with these 2 featured
Artist.
Let it out - I love both versions of this song. The new version
took me a while to get use to because the beat was so different.
But I love this version as much as the original. They Took Out
featured Artist Brett and added Left Eye's vocals in the same spot.
They also took out Brandi's from Blaque. I don't think that
matters, I couldn't tell where she was in the original. 10/10
Through the Pain - Great song! I love this song, But since I
actually paid more attention to the Lyrics I love is more. Left Eye
Talk in the first 2 Versus about 2Pac and then the last 2 versus
about TLC. Again I would like to know when this song was recorded.
I think it might of been recored for Supernova. But I'm not sure.
10/10
Forever - I'm glad they added this song, I love both of the
versions. Again they made this a little more commercial.
10/10
L.I.S.A. - Not my favorite song on either album. 5/10
Neva Will Eye Eva - Great song! I want to know when this was
recorded, because this doesn't say Left Eye at all either. Some of
the reviews said that Reigndrop just added her tracks to make a
name for herself. I don't think so. I think this was a great
addition to the album. 10/10
Let's just do it remix - They should of not added this and maybe
added another unreleased track or Left Pimpin. I can't really tell
the difference between th 2 version. For that reason I am not going
to rate this song.
Crank it - Great song! I love this song. I also want to know when
this was recored. 10/10
I will also add pro's and cons:
Pro's
It's a Left Eye album
It's a fun uplifting album
Cons
It is edited( I don't know why, not like she cusses to much) That
is probly why 2Pac isn't on the album.
They have let me live and rags to riches on the album. They could
of had Keep your Head to the sky, Left Pimpin or A new star is
born.
They could have more unreleased songs.
Bottom line: I love this album!
From what I get they are going to release at least 1 more Left Eye
album.
On the next album they should have Too Street for TV, My secret
Enemy and unreleased material. I also think they should have a
bonus cd with all of her colabs and remixed TLC songs. I know she
has several songs recored with Ray J and she also recored a song
called White Out.
Songs the should be on a bonus cd is:
Ease Back,Ridin By,Crush on you, Let em' have it,takin' me over,
gimme some, I need that, space cowboy, how do you like it, never be
the same again, you know what's up,I do , Cradle rock, what's up,no
tighter wish, not tonite, Big willie style, unpretty remix to name a
few for the most part.
Lisa "Left Eye" Eye LegacyReviewed by Timothy, 2009-02-09
This album should have been released a long time ago. To hell with
the critics. The fans will do the talking. They disses Alliyah when
she passed. I don't normaly write reviews, but I felt that with all
the negative, The Fans of "Left Eye" need to get the CD and know
that this is a work that was well worth the wait.
Rest In Peace Lefty!!!!!!!! & Thank You!!!!!!
A good effort 3.75 StarsReviewed by Well, BLEEP You Too, 2009-02-07
Ever Since Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes made a rap remix to
Baby-Baby-Baby, I waited for the day she would release a solo rap
album. Then in 2001, sort of came Supernova, which sadly never saw
an official American release. Luckily, the are no shortage of
imported copies here On Amazon. Now, The Lopes Family and friends
bring us Eye Legacy, a collection Supernova remixes and b-sides,
previously unreleased songs, and Lisa verses from Non-American TLC
Tracks. Eye Legacy pretty much does what Notorious BIG's Duets: The
Final Chapter does - remixes mostly old material with today's
artists to make it current and up to date. And While the new verses
from the newly recorded vocals by Missy Elliott, T-Boz, Chilli, Lil
Mama, ETC. aren't bad, A lot of the Supernova remixed tracks remove
material that made the tracks stand out. Unlike The Biggie Duets,
The Material here never was in Stores in the US
My Take on some tracks :
1. Let's Just Do It - This was actually a track that never made it
to FanMail and was left off of Supernova. Originally, done by Lisa
and T-Boz with 3 verses by Lisa. This Version has been ruined. 2
verses only : 1 by Lisa, one by Elliott. While Missy adds a great
verse, It would have still worked as a 4th, if you ask me.
2. Block Party w/ Lil' Mama - Supernova' first and only single.
Originally, this was my least favorite Supernova Track. Lil' Mama
spit 2 excellent verses making it worthy of it's title "Block
Party". To me, it's an improvement over the original and it happens
to be my second favorite track, not that nothing is wrong with the
original, it just wasn't my favorite track. This Lil' mama Version
just has more of a feeling like you're at an actual Block
Party.
3. Legendary, Formerly Untouchable w/2Pac - The removing of 2pac
ruined the song. It's probably due to it's explicit lyrics and the
Fact That 2pac's verses were remixed on Pac's Life. if It were up
to me, I wouldn't even miss with Untouchable.
4. Neva Will Eye Eva - An Excellent Duet between Lisa and her
sister, Reigndrop. My favorite track. Just Listen to the lyrics or
search them online.
5. Let It out - Originally "Tampered with", one of 2 Supernova
Japan Tracks and Block Party B-sides. This is one of the few songs
on the album that vocally went unedited. Since I own the UK release
of Supernova, I missed out on Tampered with so I am grateful for
this being on the CD. Tampered with, Let it out - Whatever they
want to call it. I'm glad to have it. Great new instrumental
track.
6. Forever - Originally "Friends", The other B-side and Japan
Track. See My Take on Let it out. Same situation and I feel the
same way.
7. Cherry Cherry (Japan bonus Track) - A great track that was
wrongfully taken away from America.
8. Through The Pain - Lisa's first Rap verse comes from The
Japanese Release of 3D bonus Track "Who's it gonna be". Not Sure
where the rest of her raps come from. While Through the pain is
good, "Who's it gonna be" would have been a better choice to put
on
Owners of Supernova may not enjoy the remixed track as a lot of
them had Essential Lisa material removed for new material.
PROS
1. Easier to get a hold of in stores than Supernova
2. Some Unreleased material
3. 2 Supernova B-sides were added vocally unedited.
4. Some Of Lisa's verses from Non-American TLC Tracks
CONS
1. Censored - But not too many songs are explicit.
2. Re-used material
3. The US was Shorted 3 tracks.
A. Cherry Cherry (Japan Track)
B. Let's Just do it (Japan Mix) - This features The Eye Legacy
version of the instrumental of the original Fan Mail Cut so It's
not much of a loss here. T
C. Forever (Japan Mix) - This special Remix replaces the US
version. I Think It has a better beat than The US version and the
original "Friends" beat
THE DVD Features 5 scenes removed from The Last Days of Left Eye,
which after viewing, I can see why It didn't make the
documentary.
While a good effort was made for this album and it's still a worthy
purchase, Supernova outshines Eye Legacy
Top 5 Tracks
1. Neva Will Eye Eva (FT. Reigndrop Lopes)
2. Block Party (FT. Lil' mama)
3. Cherry Cherry (Japan Bonus Track)
4. Forever/Friends
5. let it out/Tampered with
Not all new, but still good!!Reviewed by Nse Ette, 2009-02-06
"Eye legacy" is being touted as the sophomore CD Lisa Lopes was
working on before her untimely death in 2002. It isn't quite true,
just 5 of the songs are new, the rest being remixes or different
versions, in most cases retitled songs from her debut
"Supernova".
The new songs include "Let's just do it" featuring her TLC band
mates and Missy Elliott. It sounds like something the trio could
have recorded and appears again in a remixed version near the end
of the disc.
Other new cuts are "Bounce" featuring Chamillionaire and Bone
Crusher (it reminds me a wee bit of "Friends" by Whodini), the
acoustic/piano driven "Through the pain featuring Ryan Toby and
Claudette Ortiz, the Rock guitar-tinged "Neva will eye eva" and the
stomping Timbaland-style "Crank it", the latter pair featuring
Lopes' sister Reigndrop Lopes.
The remixes also offer nice alternatives, my favourites being
"Listen" featuring Sam Blanchard (originally "Universal Quest" from
"Supernova") and the piano driven "Let It Out" featuring Wanya
Morris (Originally "Tampered With" from "Supernova"). However, I
prefer by far the original version of "Block party". The version
here features Lil Mama & Clyde McKnight and loses the Bollywood
inspired quirkiness of the original. Loads of critics however pick
this as the standout track so what do I know. :-)
Despite her fun, free spirited ways, most of Lopes' lyrics are
deep, dealing with life and hardship. It's a shame this collection
wasn't better publicized, I barely even knew it was coming out and
it narrowly missed out of the Billboard hot 200 albums. Still, it's
a solid collection, far better than much of the junk cluttering up
the top 10.
